Philanthropy DECATS philanthropy is themed throughout the entire camp. Our goal by the end of DECATS is to raise the most money we can to donate to Audrey Vlk, a past DECATS students who was recently diagnosed with leukemia. All of the money that we raise will go to her. We raised money through dodge ball, concession stands, and the dance. Money earned on concessions is to be determined, but we fundraised 1300 dollars in dance money participation. An approximate value of money earned for dodge ball is 150 dollars. Mock Trial

Yesterday, Mock Trial presented their case that they have been preparing for the past three weeks. This trial focused on John Diamond murdering his girlfriend at a truck stop during her shift. Many students said this experience was both nerve racking and beneficial. Culinary Arts

On Wednesday, Culinary Arts made beignets for the Major Mock Trial’s trial.  Culinary Arts students said “We enjoyed the preparation of food but not the final result.”  The Culinary students made the beignets in their morning and afternoon majors. Business Week Three

Another tradition for the business major is Market Day. The scholars divide into pairs and compete with each other in an attempt to raise the most money. Each pair sells a different product and come up with their own price to make the biggest profits. Groups sell all kinds of products, from brownies to donuts there’s lots of sweets that are sold as well as crafts. The Krusty Kreme donuts, run by Audrey Ali and Jacob Bartkoski, plan on making a profit of at least $60. Business Major Update

The Business Major Week Two In the second week of DECATS, the business major participated in the lemonade war. The scholars divided into four teams and created a business plan that would raise them the most money. The only problem the teams faced were the three other teams, who were serving virtually the same product, lemonade. The winning team, Shots of Happiness, made a $21.09 profit from the s…ale. Drama Field Trip

On Monday (6-16-14), the Drama Major went on a field trip to the Goodwill Store in search of costumes for their play, A Midsummer Night’s Dream in which they all play bugs. Before they left, a bucket of costume scraps was laid out and the students could take whatever they needed. The wings in the costume pile were quickly snatched up. At the store, each student had a limit of five dollars provided by DECATS, but most people brought more money in case they needed it. Science major visits the Cooper Clinic

On June 16, 2014, the Science Major took a field trip to the Cooper Institute in Dallas. Dr. Kenneth Cooper started the Cooper Institute in 1970. Hoping to learn more about the brain and ways to stay fit, the students were able to accomplish that goal. Upon our arrival, Dr. Laura DeFina showed us a power point displaying the importance of fitness. After we played a game of ‘Who Wants to Be a Millionaire’, everybody was given a pedometer, rubber bracelet, and a football keychain as prizes.
