This year, there is a new major offered at Senior DECATS, Fashion Design. There are 10 students, three GA’s, and one teacher. In their first week at DECATS, the students are already learning how to thread and operate a sewing machine. Before they start sewing fabric, they will practice sewing on paper. They will eventually design the outfits that they will model for a fashion show at the end of the camp that will feature summer clothes. Two projects that they will be working on include making pillows and ties for Father’s Day. The routine begins with perspectives and sewing before the snack break. Their field trips consist of one at NorthPark Center where they will have a scavenger hunt and at Fabrique, a fabric store, where they will learn to purchase fabric and patterns. Fashion Design is a unique major where students can express their love of fashion and sewing in a creative environment.
